Every year the City of Laguna Beach holds a design competition for painted palettes to be mounted on light poles during the holiday season. My entry was chosen, and this is the finished 3’x4’ design that will bring a little wintery flair to the town (in the absence of actual winter weather - this is Southern California…)

The Sawdust Festival is renowned for its family friendly, fun-for-all arts approach. Leaning into that playfulness, I created a design for the annual 8’x8’ Selfie Mural that plays on the plein air painting tradition of the City, and the ways in which the festival aspires to invite visitors into the magic realm of art making.

A cornerstone of Laguna Beach’s public arts program is the summer banner display, where hand-painted large scale artwork hangs on light poles along the main beach roads in town. I had the opportunity to add to this collection in 2023, cr eating a playful graphic take on the underwater scenes of the City’s coves, where glimpses of the bright orange Garibaldi fish are a signature delight.

A colorful and bold backdrop for family photo-ops, selfie snaps and fooling around, taking cues from the underwater worlds of the nearby beaches. The 2023 Sawdust Art Festival ‘Selfie Wall’ was a joy and an honor to create as a first year artist in this long-standing show.
